The Vancouver Canucks came out flying on June 10 in game 5 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final, recording 47 hits, bowling into Boston Bruins whenever they got a chance. The Canucks only scored one goal but that was all they needed, beating the Bruins 1-0 to take a 3-2 lead in games, getting within one win of the first Stanley Cup in franchise history.
The game featured constant rushes, lots of hitting, great goaltending under tense conditions, fans screaming, fans hushed and almost non-stop action. It was scoreless through two then at 4:35 of the third a scoring hero emerged, none other than former Montreal Canadien, Superpest Maxim Lapierre; his 2nd goal of the playoffs, 1st point of the series.
Lapierre Goal Stands Up for Canucks
Torres passed back to Bieksa who shot it behind the net and it came around the other side and Lapierre was there to shovel the puck toward the goal and it somehow found its way past a sprawling Tim Thomas. It dribbled but an inch or two over before the Bruin goalie pulled it back, but it was in and the Canucks had the lead they'd been worked for all game.
